12. Close to the finish line

(26/1/23)
Today I was able to finish some paintings I had started a while ago, and as it seems, one’s that will be spearing on my final collection. The theme of the red strip that evokes the memory of a Marlboro cigarette packet that has appeared in multiple paintings I had done last year has continued. And I feel that this may be the visual theme of my final body of work, but I will have to conclusively assess this in the coming week. The pieces I have created today and have build on previous steps I have taken conclude in a very satisfying way for me. They all look a part of one another, in one way or another. Following a similar colour scheme and structure on the wooden boards they are painted on.
Below are pictures of theses pieces.

The painting above builds on the textural red strip I made that was inspired by Bram Bogart’s, then similarly to another painting I had done In tribute to my late dog Angus, implementing finger painting as inspired by Ayako Rokkaku in her work where she creates beautiful dreamy paintings with her fingers.

The painting above has an upside down aproach to the Marlboro like red strip, but placed on the bottom portion of the paining. Then as luck would have it I accidentally dropped a small amout of red enamel paint on the section beyond the masked off area that I had not meant to get paint on, and to me it looked fantastic against the white backdrop with finger marks in it. So I decided to set to dropping beads of paint all around these markings that ended up remenscent of a tree bearing some sort of fruit, but then there is another part that is reminiscent of blood droplets scattered around. This reminded me in an around about way of Damien Hirst’s Spot Paintings (picture below)

There is an obvious link with Hirst’s work on that they are spots of paint, but it differs in the way that mine only have one Color and are dropped on the beard instead of painted on with a brush. The construction and framing of Hisrsts work is also a lot more even and measured where as mine has a random quality to it that gets thicker as you look to the top of the painting.
